Fat Grafting

Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer or lipofilling, is a cosmetic procedure that uses a patient's own fat to enhance facial volume, smooth out wrinkles, and improve overall facial contour. This technique is popular for its natural results and low risk of allergic reactions, as it uses autologous fat.

Procedure:

  1. Anesthesia: The procedure begins with the administration of anesthesia. This can be local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the areas being treated and patient preference.
  2. Fat Harvesting:
    • The surgeon uses liposuction to harvest fat from areas of the body with excess fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks. Small incisions are made in the donor area, and a cannula is used to carefully extract the fat.
  3. Fat Purification:
    • The harvested fat is then purified using a centrifuge or filtration process to remove impurities and excess fluids. This ensures that only healthy, viable fat cells are used for the grafting process.
  4. Fat Injection:
    • The purified fat is carefully injected into the target areas using fine needles or cannulas. This can include areas such as the cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, under-eye hollows, and other areas requiring volume enhancement or wrinkle reduction.
    • The surgeon strategically places the fat to achieve a natural, balanced look, and may massage the treated areas to ensure even distribution and smooth contours.
  5. Incision Closure:
    • The tiny incisions made for fat harvesting and injection are closed with sutures or adhesive strips. These incisions are typically small and heal with minimal scarring.
  6. Recovery and Aftercare:
    • Post-surgery, patients may experience mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort in both the donor and treated areas. Cold compresses and prescribed medications can help manage these symptoms.
    • Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities and follow specific care instructions to promote healing and optimize results. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor recovery and assess the success of the fat grafting.
