Job Summary: Reporting to the nurse in chargel– Refine Plastics and Aesthetic Surgery Centre, the overall purpose of this role is to provide general nursing care to patients suffering from general medical or surgical conditions including perioperative nursing care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient care: Provide holistic patient care, including physical, mental, and social wellbeing
- Respond to emergencies: Instantly respond to medical emergencies and immediately alerting the senior nurse on duty and/or doctor on duty.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to medication safety protocols.
- Monitoring of vital signs: Monitor and document vital signs, hydration status and conduct diagnostic tests. In the case of abnormal finding and seek help from the senior nurses or the doctor on duty.
- Perform pre-operative assessments of patients scheduled for plastic surgery procedures, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing consent forms.
- Waste management: Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with IPC Guidelines on waste management.
- Customer care – Educate patients and their families on post-operative care instructions, including pain management techniques, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
- Liaise with other medical professionals: Work with other medical professionals such as surgeons, physicians and physiotherapists that are treating the patient, updating them on the patient status, and receive orders or patient care recommendations.
- Perform routine procedures: Conduct routine activities such as safety checks, IV insertion urinary catheterization and changing of wound dressing.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition before, during, and after surgery, identifying any signs of complications or adverse reactions and taking appropriate action.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Kenya Registered Perioperative Nursing is an added advantage.
- Must be a qualified and Registered Nurse (RN/RM/KRCHN/BSN).
- Must have a valid licensure from the Nursing Council of Kenya
- Five (5) years of experience, 3 of which should have been in plastic surgery center/ clinic.
- Two (2) Years perioperative experience
- ACLS and BLS qualifications from a relevant body.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication & customer care skills
- Computer literate.
- Participate in all team efforts as departmental needs arise.
- Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.
