Gynaecomastia surgery
Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction, is a surgical procedure to correct enlarged male breasts. This condition, medically referred to as gynecomastia, can be caused by hormonal imbalances, genetics, obesity, the natural aging process, or the use of certain medications and substances. It may affect one or both breasts and can sometimes cause tenderness or discomfort in addition to cosmetic concerns.
The surgery involves the removal of excess glandular tissue and fat to create a flatter, more masculine chest contour. In some cases, liposuction is used to remove localized fat deposits, while in others, direct excision is necessary to address stubborn glandular tissue and redundant skin.
Gynecomastia correction is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the extent of the procedure. Recovery time varies, but most patients return to non-strenuous activities within a week, with swelling and bruising subsiding gradually over several weeks. Wearing a compression garment during recovery helps support the new chest contour and reduce swelling. The procedure can significantly improve a man's physical appearance, self-confidence, and comfort in clothing and physical activities.
